About the Author

Michael Long completed his Master of Arts in Russian language and area studies (1986) and his Doctor of Philosophy in Slavic Linguistics (1994) at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He is associate professor of Russian and director of Slavic and East European Studies at Baylor University. His research focuses on Czech morphology, as well as cultural topics concerned with human rights in the former East Bloc, the transition of post-Communist states of Central and Eastern Europe, and Communist Party policy toward the preservation of cultural monuments in Russia and the Republic of Georgia. He traveled to Prague and Berlin to conduct the interview for Making History: Czech Voices of Dissent and the Revolution of 1989 as a Fellow for the Institute for Oral History at Baylor University. Preparation of the manuscript for publication was partially funded by the College of Arts and Sciences at Baylor University.
